Esopus Slalom
Race Description:
The Esopus Slalom is held on Railroad Rapids just north of Phoenicia, NY on the Esopus Creek. The Esopus Creek was the site of the 1980 ACA Whitewater Open Canoe Slalom and Downriver National Championships and there has been a slalom race on the creek continuously since 1979! The river is class 2+ at the race site. This race is the ACA Atlantic Division Open Canoe Slalom Championships. This event is sponsored by the ACA Atlantic Division OCS Committee, sanctioned by the American Canoe Association and is definitely not a beginner level whitewater slalom race. It is the next to last race of the season in the New England Slalom Series and will be run as a two-day race with first runs on Saturday afternoon and second runs starting Sunday morning. Help is requested starting Friday at noon for course set-up in order to allow all morning Saturday for practice.
