Atlantic Division Open Canoe Slalom
Committee By-Laws
Chapter
I – COMMITTEE NAME
This
committee shall be known as the AVA Atlantic Division Open Canoe Slalom
Committee of the American Canoe Association, Inc. (OC Slalom).
Chapter
II – COMMITTEE BY-LAWS
These
By-laws provide information and procedures for the organization and function of
the Atlantic Division Open Canoe Slalom Committee.
A.
Atlantic Division Open Canoe Slalom Committee Mission and Purpose
The
Constitution of the American Canoe Association, Inc. states: The purpose of
this Association is to unite all persons interested in canoeing and thereby
through our organization to provide educational, informational and training
services to increase safety, enjoyment and skills of those canoeing on rivers,
lakes, estuaries and other bodies of water. The purpose of the WWOC is, to
encourage and sanction amateur competition in ... Open Canoe Slalom ... at
local, regional, national, and international levels. This shall be our mission.
The
Atlantic Division Open Canoe Slalom Committee's purpose is to fulfill the
American Canoe Association, Inc. mandate to, promulgate and enforce the Racing
Rules and Regulations of the Association governing our branch of the sport. And
further, the members of the Atlantic Division Open Canoe Slalom Committee shall
cause an annual, Divisional Slalom Championship Regattas, to be held at such
time and place as it may select.
B.
Atlantic Division OC Slalom Committee By-Laws Revisions
1.
Amendments to the OC Slalom Committee By-laws shall be by a majority vote of
its members.
2. Any
proposed amendment must be presented initially to the OC Slalom Committee
Chairman.
3. A
30-day notice of proposed amendments shall be provided to OC Slalom Committee
members; the notice shall state the exact wording of the proposed amendment and
the rationale for the change.
Chapter
III - ATLANTIC DIVISION OPEN CANOE SLALOM COMMITTEE
A. Atlantic Division OC Slalom Committee Membership
Voting
members of the OC Slalom Committee shall consist of the Atlantic Division OC
Slalom Committee Chairman, and OC Slalom Committee Members-at-large. At least
50% of the OC Slalom Committee shall be made up of individuals who are actively
engaged in open canoe slalom competition.
B.
Atlantic Division OC Slalom Committee Chairman
1. The
term of office of the WWOC Chairman shall be one years beginning the first day
of the calendar year following the election. The Chairmanship must be filled by
a member a Governing Member of the Atlantic Division of the ACA and be an
active participant in Open Canoe Slalom events.
2. Each
year at the last fall open canoe slalom event, the Atlantic Division OC Slalom
Committee shall meet on Saturday evening to elect the OC Slalom Committee
Chairman for the following year.
3. The
duties of the Atlantic Division OC Slalom Committee Chairman shall be to call
and to preside over Atlantic Division OC Slalom Committee meetings, to maintain
the records of the Atlantic Division OC Slalom Committee, and to act on behalf
of the Atlantic Division OC Slalom Committee between meetings.
C.
Atlantic Division OC Slalom Committee Members-at Large
1. Any
ACA Governing Member who participates regularly in open canoe slalom events is
eligible to join the Atlantic Division OC Slalom Committee.
2. The
numbers of Atlantic Division OC Slalom Committee Members-at-Large shall not
exceed twenty-five individuals and must represent a cross section of paddling
clubs and organizations within the Atlantic Division as well as others with a
direct interest in Atlantic Division OC Slalom Committee sanctioned events.
3. The
term of office of Atlantic Division OC Slalom Committee Members-at-Large shall
be indefinite.
4.
Atlantic Division OC Slalom Committee Members-at-Large are voting members of
the Atlantic Division OC Slalom Committee with full benefits and privileges.
5. The
duties of the Atlantic Division OC Slalom Committee Members-at-Large shall be
to support and to promote the activities of the Atlantic Division OC Slalom
Committee. They may be selected to represent special interests such as
manufacturers or publishers, or slalom paddlers.
Chapter
III – ENACTING AND SAVING CLAUSE
A.
These By-laws shall become effective, January 1, 2000.
